We receive more and more enquiries for Mas or gites – some of them are operating quite successfully while others are waiting for conversion. French Enterprises works with two specialist accredited companies in this field so if we can’t find a Mas or a gite for you in our area perhaps what you are looking for doesn’t exist. We can supply a current list on request.

Many of the old Mas in the Pyrenees Orientales are suitable to be converted into small luxury hotels so do ask if you are looking for commercial opportunities. One of the many advantages of considering buying a gites in the Pyrenees Orientales is that there is so much to do all year round from sailing and swimming in the Mediterranean, to skiing in the winter.

Tourism is not as well developed here in the winter as it is on the Cote d’Azur – but we believe this is slowly changing. There are some superb Golf and Country Clubs in this region as well as many historical villages and towns to visit. The Spanish border is close by and many locals frequently drive over at the weekend for lunch in one of the famous restauarants.

If you want peace and quiet to conduct your search for a gites or a Mas why not visit in September or October when the weather is still beautiful but most of the tourists will have gone home, so finding accommodation will not be a problem. We recommend some lovely hotels or we can arrange for you to stay in a holiday rental apartment or villa. We will give you the tools and links you need to do your research on the web before you arrive. Ten days is ample time to wrap up a sale of a gites or Mas providing you know where you want to be.

We provide accurate and realistic estimates about renovation and restoration costs. Always remember when buying older property that the Notary fees are about 7,5% on top of the price of the property.

The Pyrenees Orientales offers Mas in vineyards, Mas with wine presses ready for conversion and Mas that are crying out to be converted into hotels. Some owners will split large estates into two parts so don’t be discouraged by a hefty price tag.

The best value Gites we have ever come across is a fully restored 10th Century Priory in a remote mountain village near Prades. It is ready to move into, has six bedrooms and is absolutely immaculate with bookings from German, Swiss and UK clients to the end of next year. It’s still available at Euros 380,000. There are a few for sale below this price – so if you see one – move quickly.
